submit your best & worst reads of 2023!
We're back, baby. It's time for you to do your part and tell me all the best and worst stuff you read this year.
Good morning and welcome back to work after a long weekend. I hope your Thanksgiving plates were stacked with fabulous food, and your Friendsgiving cups were kept full.
This marks my fourth(!) year of haranguing you to submit your greatest reading triumphs and your longest slogs of the past year. Consider it your place to proselytize and complain in equal measure, your space to convert new followers to your fandoms and warn against the worst of your 2023 literary litter. Give us your worst (and best). And since I love to stir the pot, check out what folks recommended and roasted in previous editions. You might find your self inspired or infuriated by hot takes from years past! Previous editions: 2022, 2021, 2020
More to come from me this holiday season, but get your submissions in by December 23 to guarantee inclusion (pending any genuinely bad takes from you lot, and the cooperation of the ever-fickle Google form).
Beyond gearing up for my favorite newsletter edition of the year, I've been living, laughing, and loving. I delighted in a final wedding bash of the season at an independent movie theater/restaurant, complete with popcorn during the ceremony, beloved movies playing all evening, and end-of-night kolaches; talked shop with pals around town; gallivanted through DUMBO for sweets and sunshine; shook ass to Jungkook's new music; closed down the delectible Peking Duck House; bribed friends to get a couch into my apartment; and still more, because it has been a sprinting few weeks.
I'm looking forward to nesting in my new reading nook for the rest of the year, so please don't be sad if I miss your next party. Just imagine me here, refreshing my little submission form, waiting patiently for your reviews to nourish me since I'm not bold enough to eat on my new white couch yet. Give me something to live for, friends.
I'll be back soon to bug you. Bye!
